Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD)
Do you sometimes work with children or parents who
“just don’t seem to understand”, “keep making the same mistakes”, or
“forget much of what you work to teach them”? This can be very
frustrating for you and for the families you are working with. Could it
be fetal alcohol exposure?
Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) is the number one cause of
cognitive deficit and developmental delay in the US. It is estimated to
affect 1 in 100 births. FASD is often invisible and unrecognized.
Pregnant women who unintentionally expose their babies are not all
problem drinkers – many don’t even know they are pregnant when exposure
occurs.
